Summary

For humans and vampires, the rules of survival are the same: never trust, never yield, and always–always–guard your heart。

The adopted human daughter of the Nightborn vampire king, Oraya carved her place in a world designed to kill her。 Her only chance to become something more than prey is entering the Kejari: a legendary tournament held by the goddess of death herself。

But winning won’t be easy amongst the most vicious warriors from all three vampire houses。 To survive, Oraya is forced to make an alliance with a mysterious rival。

Everything about Raihn is dangerous。 He is a ruthless vampire, an efficient killer, an enemy to her father’s crown…and her greatest competition。 Yet, what terrifies Oraya most of all is that she finds herself oddly drawn to him。

But there’s no room for compassion in the Kejari。 War for the House of Night brews, shattering everything that Oraya thought she knew about her home。

In a kingdom where nothing is more deadly than love, Raihn may understand her more than anyone, but their blossoming attraction could be her downfall。

The Serpent and the Wings of Night is the first book in the Crowns of Nyaxia series, a heart-wrenching romance full of dark magic and bloodthirsty intrigue。

10/10WOW! I ATE this book up。 Booktok convinced me to read this and it did NOT disappoint。 I am slowly turning into a fantasy lover and this book just lit the fire。 I loved everything about it and can’t wait to read the next book。

The plot was thin at best until the end。 And even the ending seemed silly to me。 I kept reading because her characters are SO COMPELLING! They all have such depth and emotion that it makes you want to read for them but the whole story line has some room for growth It’s a meh read, easy to pick up but also easy to put down

YUP! Did I get angry afterwards? Fuck yes。 I had theories along the way and while some of them were partially accurate, there were still aspects to them that I didn’t see coming。 I cannot wait to see what happens in the next book。 - - - - - - - - I did a tandem read, so I used Whispersync to follow along for parts of the book and others just audible in general。 My only complaint is the narrator。 She just didn’t fit, or at least for me she didn’t fit。 There were moments that she would read a line and the tone didn’t fit the story。 When Raihn is trying to be flirty or Oraya is angry, I shouldn’t be getting elementary school teacher during circle time。 I think this might be the first time I’ve felt I’ve had a narrator not fit for a book。 。。。more

Oraya is probably one of my favourite characters written。 She is both fiercely tough and deeply sensitive。 The slow burn of this book was really nice, not something I'm used to, and the last couple chapters had me REELING。 A book I couldn't put down and thank god the sequel is out tomorrow。 Oraya is probably one of my favourite characters written。 She is both fiercely tough and deeply sensitive。 The slow burn of this book was really nice, not something I'm used to, and the last couple chapters had me REELING。 A book I couldn't put down and thank god the sequel is out tomorrow。 。。。more

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️It had been so long since I actually finished a fantasy book。 I thought I outgrew fantasy or something because I loved it so much before (except anything by SJM whose books I could never not love), I just realized that the genre wasn't the problem but that the fantasy books the past few years were just meh。 So, I stuck around romance。 But this, oh!! I agree with the other readers that while the story isn't very original, it's top-tier fantasy nevertheless。 This lived up to the hype。I'm ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️It had been so long since I actually finished a fantasy book。 I thought I outgrew fantasy or something because I loved it so much before (except anything by SJM whose books I could never not love), I just realized that the genre wasn't the problem but that the fantasy books the past few years were just meh。 So, I stuck around romance。 But this, oh!! I wouldn't say ACOTAR, though, which was/is very dreamy。 This lacked that, this was so intense from the very start。I only read this in one sitting— proof of how good my reading experience was。 I'm actually having one of my depressive episodes and this helped pull myself out of it。 I'm also glad that I read this a day before the second book's release because I don't know if I can wait a whole year for the sequel。 。。。more

This book checks every single box for me。 Her world building is expensive but not overwhelming。 The characters are well rounded and not perfect。 The action is descriptive but not convoluted。 I will say my subconscious was looking for hints of Tisaanah and Max because my heart wants a multiverse。。。but this might be my favorite and I adored the Daughter of No Worlds series。

Perhaps, I'm the weird one but the character i was most intrested in was Vincent。 It wasn't Raihn or Oraya。 I realised after i was done with the book that most of the highlighted section in the book was his dialogue。And some of them made me really fall for him as a father。 He was a cruel person but he was a gentle father for his girl。"You do not have to do this, my little serpent,” he said softly。 “I realize only now that perhaps I never told you that"。But he communicated it a thousand ways over Perhaps, I'm the weird one but the character i was most intrested in was Vincent。 It wasn't Raihn or Oraya。 I realised after i was done with the book that most of the highlighted section in the book was his dialogue。And some of them made me really fall for him as a father。 He was a cruel person but he was a gentle father for his girl。"You do not have to do this, my little serpent,” he said softly。 “I realize only now that perhaps I never told you that"。But he communicated it a thousand ways over the years, most of them coated in death。 I love you。 Here’s how you stay alive。 Here’s how you make sure that no one can hurt you。I suppose since this was Oraya's POV who loved her father, i came to love him too in the end。 Oraya herself was a strong character but she was coddled by her father。 She tried to see things she could accept and ignored anything that can make her father villain。 I suppose that's what made her human。 I love how complex all these characters were。 The world building was good。 Raihn felt a little flat to me。 But we'll see how it goes in the next installment。 。。。more

Exciting and unexpected plot twistsI love the character and world building in this book。 I adore Raihn - even that shocking ending doesn’t change my opinion。 I really was not expecting the amount of plot twists in this book and that ending just completely tore my mind to shreds。 However im very excited to see what happens next。

I haven’t read a book this quickly in quite some time。 I was captivated by chapter one and could barely put it down after that。 Cannot wait to read the second one!!

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 this book had potential, but it fell flat for me。 (2。5-3。0 rating) hunger games for vampires - a great idea, but could not get into the characters。 would have been more interested if there were multiple characters with POVs going through this tournament/trials。 also i've come to realize that i absolutely HATE forced/marriage of convenience tropes。 this book had potential, but it fell flat for me。 (2。5-3。0 rating) hunger games for vampires - a great idea, but could not get into the characters。 would have been more interested if there were multiple characters with POVs going through this tournament/trials。 also i've come to realize that i absolutely HATE forced/marriage of convenience tropes。 。。。more
